Participating: James, Joe, Joel, Steve.
Joe hadn't had a chance to hear the previous session's recording before we
started, and so was new to the machine approach. James suggested we aim for
a bit more atmospheric than last time: let a motif develop and then the
copilot could tweak the effects, but a slower change than session #14
exhibited.
- Machine 004:
Joe on Yamaha CS60 keyboard, fed into the Moogerfooger ring modulator and
12-stage phaser in serial (both controlled by Steve), then into the board.
Joel was recording from a line from the board direct into his sampler, and
working with snippets of sound in a very big autonomous effect loop.
- Machine 005:
James on the Yamaha CS 60 keyboard and effects controlled by Steve as
above.
Joe on the Zeta electric upright bass fed into the Korg Kaoss pad (also
controlled by Steve. I confined myself to leaving the Korg on a single
effect [hall reverb 32], and changing the parameters of the single effect.
Joe played guitar into the Kaoss (tape echo).
Joel was still sampling (I think).
- Next, Steve took the Zeta (played with fingers) fed into the two Moogs.
James worked with the Moog
lowpass filter (was James modulating himself on the console keyboard, or modulating Joel
on the yamaha CS60 then?)
- For the fourth track, James played the Yamaha keyboard, Steve used the
Zeta & two Moog effects, but triggered the strings with an E-Bow.
- For the final recording, James played the Yamaha CS60, Joel played on
the console keyboard, Joe played the drums, and Steve played the theremin
fed into the Kaoss pad.
Afterwards we introduced Joel to the dadaist absurdity that is the show
Iron Chef.
